| National Broadband Network: |
- FTTB - Fibre to the Building basement near on the corner of Scarborough and Lawson Streets
- VDSL2 - Very-high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line. This is similar to ADSL technology where internet is delivered over the outdated building phone lines
but the speeds are higher because the distance is only from the stage 1 basement.
- VDSL2 speeds are range up to 100Mb/s and depends on: (1) the distance from your unit to the basement, (2) the quality of the phone line to your unit, and,
(3) the number of ISP users (congestion)
- Currently there is only one VDSL2 supplier on site (NBN) but this may change if other companies install VDSL technology (this could dramatically VDSL2 speeds)
- Download speeds: 50-100Mb/s, Upload speeds 10-50Mb/s, service is asymmemtrical (downloading is faster than uploading by a factor of 2 to 10 times)
- NBN report that VDSL2 comes with vectoring which is a means of noise cancellation, leading to higher possible speeds
- There are no alternate internet connections for NBN, such as wireless links on the top of the high rise towers
- NBN VDSL2 is considered a residential grade service and is subject to the limitations of the traditional copper phone lines (speed and reliability)
- NBN replaces traditional phone and fax services as well as legacy ADSL, ISDN, and EOC services
- To get an NBN service, you can sign up with any ISP (Internet Service Provider) who will organise a connection and a monthly plan
- When signing up with NBN on their web site, enter your unit number when checking your address. If your unit number is not present then contact your ISP and
provide them with evidence of your unit number (e.g. an electricity bill) so your ISP will work with NBN to enter your unit number on their system

Mobile Broadband: |
Mobile data is internet connection delivered to mobile devices over a wireless cellular connections.
You can then use mobile tethering to share the interent with other devices.
- There are three mobile phone networks in Australia: Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.
Each network provider has their own frequency ranges but all operate on the global GSM standard.
- Mobile data plans vary by the amount of data supplied, typically rolling over every month
- Speeds vary depending on the service plan of the mobile service provider and the capability of your mobile phone
- Typical speeds for Southport are listed below. Note that 5G has been available for some time.
- 3G less then 1Mb/s (will be shut down sometime in the near future)
- 4G 20-30Mb/s
- 5G 50-150Mb/s or more
- Mobile reception in the towers is usually exceptional particularly on the north side as the mobile phone towers are on the
corner of Nerang and Scarborough Streets in the Telstra telephone exchange building
- Coverage in the basement is available on commercial levels for with the installation of Telstra mobile phone repeaters
